Welcome to Animal Magic! We are a family-run kennel, cattery and pet grooming business located in Colchester, Essex.

 

In order to follow her passion of working with animals, Kerry Youngman established Animal Magic in 1992 by opening a pet shop in Colchester town. She then decided to venture into pet grooming and over the years built up an outstanding reputation for the fantastic work carried out by herself and her dedicated staff team.

 

For many years it had been Kerry's dream to open a hydrotherapy centre for dogs after seeing many dogs suffering with arthritis, injuries and weight problems. Kerry completed courses at the Hawksmoor Hydrotherapy Centre of Excellence in; Introduction to Hydrotherapy, Anatomy and Physiology for Hydrotherapy and Introduction to First Aid and Animal Care. Kerry then opened Animal Magic's hydrotherapy fitness centre and our existing kennels and cattery, so that she could help as many pets as possible in and around Colchester.

Kerry was a truly unique individual who touched many people’s hearts and lives by dedicating her own to animals in need. She rehomed many animals and earned a reputation like no other in the Colchester area. She was known for her true dedication and passion for animals. She personally rehomed many animals over the years, including a fox, many dogs, cats, donkeys, tortoises, fish, chickens, ducks and geese.

Kerry was known locally for owning a Mastiff called Grancha Sam. Grancha Sam was the love of her life and she doted on Grancha until the day that he died. Grancha inspired the new logo for Animal Magic and will always be an ongoing symbol of remembrance to Kerry.

Kerry sadly passed away in 2022 and we continue to keep the doors of Animal Magic open with a view to maintaining her legacy. The businesses are now managed by her family, who worked closely alongside Kerry in the years before her passing.

Our team at Animal Magic are not only passionate about what we do, we are fully insured, Pet First Aid trained, qualified up to level 5 in Animal Management, members of the British Dog Grooming Association and the Guild of Master Craftsmen.
